Entry from: Aswan, Egypt Entry Title: "Aswan - Dams, Feluccas, Philae" Entry: "Day 5 Wednesday 15th November 2007 Stewart was now suffering Egpytian runs - so were 8 others!! We took the morning train which...guess what.....was running about 2 hours late. So...we had another very long wait on the platform. We arrived in Aswan and were taken to the Hotel. After a quick change we headed to the river where we took a Felucca over to Elephantine Island. A very historical island which was thought to be an old ivory trading area - it has lots of ruins which are being rebuilt in places and still being researched in others. We then went round the Island's museum which had some interesting mummies - and a very strange mud anchor....how does that work?? We then re-boarded the Felucca and headed up river tacking in the wind to reach Kitchener's Island. During the voyage one of the boat people spent ages putting out tat to sell us...and not one person showed any interest - he packed up very quickly and the boat tour seemed to end shortly afterwards!! Kitchener's Island was lovely and in the summer it must be an amazingly tranquil place full of colour. The next day was a trip to Philae - which again split the group. Our trip notes had one price, the guide and the newer trip notes had a higher price....we again had a ...
